Outrigger Canoe World Sprints

The past few days we have been watching Landon paddle for Team Canada in the Outrigger Canoe World Chanpionships in Calgary. He’s been doing great and will be competing in the 1500 meters today, which is his last event.

Outrigger canoeing originated in the Pacific, most the competitors are therefore from very exotic places such as Hawaii, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Rapa Nui (Easter Island), Tahiti and Australia. Last night was culture night and we got to see some amazing performances. The New Zealand team did an incredible and powerful Haka. If you haven’t seen it before I would check out the All Blacks Haka on YouTube!

The team from Rapa Nui, however, had the most spectacular show. Only guys. All ripped. No clothes but a little banana hammock. Rhythm and power to the max. Wow!
