Our Adventure to the North is officially on the road. After staying put in Kyler’s hometown, Edmonton, for the past couple of weeks, we are headed to Alaska. Over the next four-five days we will be driving more than 3000 km through wild and desolate country. For parts of the journey, we are more likely to encounter bears than people.
Time has simply flown by here in Edmonton. Since last update, this is some of what we have been up to:
Edmonton, E-Town, City of Champions, Provincial Capitol – Kyler’s home town has many names. We made it back to Edmonton in one (well, two) pieces. The drive through the Rockies was beautiful and it has been great being back with friends and family.
While on our road trip down to Panama, we knew we were going back for our great friends’ (Cowboy and Valerie) wedding at Kicking Horse, the same place Kyler and I tied the love-knot last July. It has been our deadline and something we would not want to miss out on! Cowboy and Valerie are keen skiers and planned for a ski wedding.
While Kyler attended the stag party in Fernie, I easily entertained myself and …wait for it… set a World Record while I was at it!
After many months on the road, most of them in the tropics, we are back in the country of maple syrup, (ice) hockey, toques, Kokanee, “Eh”s, mountains, plains, mega-friendly people, red and black plaid shirts, poutine, Tim Hortons, Nanaimo bars, camp fires, beavers and bears – you guessed it: Canada!
No better way to check out the island than to rent a bike and go cruisin’! We are based in Bocas Town on Colón island and headed for the nearby beaches, Paunch and Bluff. Our bike ride took us through town, by the local airstrip, from narrow asphalt roads to sand and literally biking on the beach.
Just stunningly beautiful and really cheap fun! $3.75 bike rental – Yes, please!
Aaaah! Cold coconut water, some air between the toes and a nice view – We are two lucky folks!
